Should You Self-Publish On Medium?

I still can’t decide which is best…

I have agonised over this subject.

Literally spent hours wondering whether I should use a publication or self-publish my stories.

I’ve spent nights, wide- awake, considering the various pros and cons of self-publishing vs using a publication.

Thoughts?

1. My following is quite small (in comparison to others). I’m not getting into the ‘size matters’ argument, but with 300+ followers, this reduces the number of eyes on my work.
2. On the other hand, a publication has many, many, more followers, so there is a much better chance that my story will be seen.
3. I can’t control when a publication will actually publish my story. In some instances, it’s been a couple of days. You know? That time when you want your baby out in the world!

What’s important?

Do I want to get my work out as fast as possible?

I’ve realised that to be published daily which, by the way, is not my goal, I need to be writing and submitting more than once per day to multiple publications.

Or, I can just write and publish directly on my own timeline.
